I have carried some sort of knife since I was a kid. I found EDC on Instagram. I saw a pocket dump with some cool gear, and was intrigued. I started following carriers and finding more and more makers that I never knew existed. I don't own or can't afford the custom knives, but many inexpensive knives are great as well! I enjoy my Kershaws. I have my first fixed blade coming soon from a maker with a deal that I couldn't pass up. I still find great makers, but the best part is the people! I have met and made so many great friends in this community. I have seen so many selfless acts of kindness, and GCRs to help those in need. I wish that I was able to do more to help and that will come in time. I'm hooked for life.
Product Review for an Awesome Bottle Opener
The Ironbullslinger or "slinger" as it's called because of ease of opening that will sling a top across the room! The slinger is shaped like a bull head. The top can easily accept paracord for a lanyard and bead. This opener slings tops with ease! It even can open two bottles at the same time,if you possess the required skills to boot. Ironbullslinger is made by Ernest Calhoun who is also a Police officer. There are supposedly many other uses for the Slinger but Ernest has been very secretive about them. I like that. It adds to the mystique. They can be found in materials ranging from Jade and G 10, to brass, copper, mokuti, and steel among others. Another great aspect of the Slinger is the chance to become a Rustler or be "Rustlered Up". This is where you can choose a number, a Rustler number they are called. You have to either buy a Rustler slinger or be chosen to pick a number. There are a few people that make leather saddles such as Roy Stockton (@highbrassleather) for your Slinger. There are even some working on some kydex sheaths for the Slinger. Overall, I love my Slinger, the community, and you can't find a better maker. Ernest is top notch! He's a good person, he's great to chat with, and will actually listen to your ideas. He comments quickly on posts and returns messages quickly for a man holding down 2 jobs, just finished college and has a family. You cannot go wrong with buying an Ironbullslinger!
Is there another piece of gear you never leave the house without?
I do not leave the house without my Metal X Manufacturing wallet.
This kydex wallet holds up to 9 cards, cash and acts as a holster for a knuck. Jay makes one solid product. It is slim enough that you don't notice it. I thought it wouldn't be comfortable sitting on kydex, but to my surprise, I don't notice it. Blue carbon fiber, white kydex with a red knuck peeking out completes the patriotic color scheme. This is my daily use wallet.
What else do you want the world to know? What is your
favorite gear combo for EDC? Who is your favorite custom
maker, your favorite brand, favorite Facebook gear group
or other forum etc.
My favorite brand that many may not have heard of is @flatbrokedesigns. Mike Fitzgerald is the best of the best all around as a person, and as an artist. He takes broken or heavily used skateboards and turns them into masterpieces. He will turn them into anything from beads, knucks, clocks, kitchen utensils, jewelry. You name it, he can do it! Do yourself a favor and give him a follow on IG.
Another great brand is Key Hole Holsters. This veteran owned and operated company makes hybrid kydex and English bridle leather holsters. I have their hybrid IWB in black carbon fiber and black leather with red stitching and Molon Labe embossed. How can I describe this holster besides beautiful, awesome and functional? How about comfortable and concealable in many positions for 6 o'clock to 3 o'clock.
My favorite custom maker would have to be Chris Peterson of Lucky 13 knives. Chris makes beautiful knives if you're living under a rock and don't know. He has a cult like following for good reason. He makes fantastic knives, plain and simple. He's a good guy to boot, that does alot for charities. Many like me know that I probably will never own one of his knives, but that can't stop me from dreaming right? Ahhhhhh..... snap out of the Wu Tang dream Shaolin warrior! The 13 chambers await you.
